Tweens and teens

10 Of My Favourite Teenage Images | Stockholm Family Photographer

Teenagers. They’re often sadly overlooked when it comes to portraits. Everyone likes to have their babies, toddlers, and pre-tween children photographed, but for some reason when it comes to teenagers, documenting those fleeting years is not always prioritized. I get it though, if you have lots of cute photos of your young children, it might be that getting a portrait of your 15-year-old doesn’t feel so important - they probably have lots of selfies anyway ;). Or maybe the teenager in your family just doesn’t want to be photographed. Us parents know, however, that much will change during those teenage years. They enter that phase as a child and leave as an adult. Everything changes during that time!

My approach to photographing teenagers is quite laid back. I don’t ask them to do big cheesy smiles. I chat to them, get them comfortable and photograph them just as they are. I can promise you when this is done right, those teenagers will look back on their portraits in years to come and be so grateful to have natural, timeless images of them in their youth. Wouldn’t we all have loved that?!

Teenage friends photo session in Djursholm | Stockholm Family Photography

Does this sound familiar… You have a baby or several. You think they are the cutest thing ever, so you have them photographed. You might do this a few times while they are very young. And then that baby turns into a teenager. Life gets busy though and you still have those nice photographs of when they were babies, so you never book a photo session for your teens! Before you know it, your teenager is packing up and preparing to leave home. You look around at your living room walls and see those cute baby pictures, but no recent photographs of your teenage child! Has this happened in your family?

The mother of one of these best friends looked at her beautiful daughter growing up right before her eyes and realised she needed to book a teenage friends photo session. These girls have been besties since they were two years old! One day, when they’ve had lots of big life experiences, they will look back at these photographs and wonder at who they once were. How they stood on the precipice of adulthood, having no idea of what lay ahead, but knowing they had each other.

If you would like to book one of the last available slots in October for a photo session, feel free to mail me at sandra@sandrajolly.com, or go to the Contact page above and we can start planning :)

August Personal Faves | Family Photographer Stockholm

Anyone else feel like time has really picked up speed this year? I can’t believe we are already in the middle of September! Surely, it’s not just me feeling like this?! Reassure me please ;)

August already feels like a lifetime ago. Luckily though, I managed to take some personal pictures last month. This doesn’t happen every month, as I’m usually photographing my clients and that takes up a lot of time. I love getting natural pictures of my family, when they are in the middle of an activity or exploring, or just doing their own thing. Tiny snippets of their life that I just KNOW they will love to look at when they are older.

I have a few dates available in the coming months, so if you would like to book a Jolly family session, please feel free to get in touch via the Contact page above or mail me at sandra@sandrajolly.com. I provide my families with LOTS of tips about preparing for their session and what to wear to it, and we will even have a video chat so we can ‘meet’ before our session and talk through everything :)

Teenage friends photo session at Rosersberg slott | Familjefotograf Stockholm

Over the past few years, I’ve noticed that when it comes to photo sessions, teenagers often get overlooked. Lots of families book a photo session for their newborns or toddlers, and sometimes when the kids are seven or eight. Often though, families don’t book a session when those kids grow into tweens or teenagers.

It is so important to document these teenage years (and I’m not talking about selfies!). I encourage families to either book a family session with their teenage children or book a teenage friend’s photo session so that those teenagers will have a beautiful collection of images from this stage of their lives.

I’ve done several fun tween and teen photo sessions this year, and right now I have three teenage girlfriends wanting to book a friend session. They’ve been best friends since they were tiny and really want to have a session where it’s just them, hanging out and having fun, so watch this space ;)

The below teenage photo session was inspired by the song, All The Young Dudes (be careful, that song tends to get stuck in your head!). We spent a relaxed summer evening by the water on the beautiful grounds of Rosersberg slott. I didn’t ask them for smiles, although they were a naturally smiley bunch, and we created some cool, laid back images of these YOUNG DUDES :).

If you would like to book a teenage session with your teenagers, please mail sandra@sandrajolly.com or use the Contact page above and we’ll take it from there.
